Rien sans elles
De la parité en politique

Nothing without women

A set of social mechanisms prevents women from penetrating certain spheres of society, notably the seats of power. Who do we find at the head of institutions and organisations?

Reaffirming the principle of equality is not enough, solutions must be found to break down the barriers which maintain such discrimination.

Although not the panacea, one of these solutions is parity. This book bears witness to the possibilities and limitations of such a measure, taken against a "natural" social order whose existence is denied by certain people but accepted by others as perfectly normal or worse still as inevitable.

Presenting historical and sociological analyses and statements from elected women members, Rien sans elles' intention is to aid understanding of reality, for the simple reason that understanding is the one way of providing the means of taking action.
