How We Teach History to our Children
This work is addressed to all those who are interested in history but who are not necessarily at the centre of the debates about this subject. We are mainly thinking about all those parents who are trying to match their school memories and their sense of history with the way they see history taught to their children today, and about those who are using history without having had a specialist training. In fact school curricula and pedagogical practice do not come out of the blue. Dominique Comelli presents the ideological choices fundamental to the teaching of history in France. They are not, in truth, widely advertised, in spite of the violence of certain internal debates.
It is important that we treat this undoubtedly political subject more openly, considering the eminently special place that history occupies in France. The quality of this text lies in the fact that it is not a one-sided point of view that is being expressed.
